Training for Councillors and Members of Devolved Public Bodies

The Standards Commission provides guidance and support to assist councillors and members of devolved public bodies to act in accordance with the Codes of Conduct through the delivery of tailored training events. The aim of these events is to provide advice to councillors and members on how to interpret the provisions of the Codes of Conduct. Councillors and members are asked to submit questions and raise issues in advance so that the training can be tailored to cover current and organisational specific issues.

The Standards Commission has produced a standard presentation on the Councillors' Code of Conduct, which can be tailored for specific events. This can be accessed from the table below.

Copies of other presentations from recent events can also be accessed from the table below.

The Standards Commission also provides advice on request to councillors and members of devolved public bodies. We aim to do so within the timescales set out in the Standards Commission’s Service Charter

For advice, more information or to request training, please contact us on 0131 348 6666 or by email to enquiries@standardscommission.org.uk.

Workshops for Monitoring Officers and Standards Officers

The Standards Commission holds separate annual events for both Council Monitoring Officers and for the Standards Officers of devolved public bodies. The aim of these events is to provide an opportunity for officers to network and to identify, and bring to the attention of the Standards Commission, any emerging and developing issues and trends. We can then discuss how to address these matters and concerns.

The Standards Commission also uses the workshops to advise officers of work we are undertaking and to seek their views on any proposed changes to our guidance or other training materials to ensure they continue to be fit for purpose.

Please see our News page for information about any forthcoming workshops.

The Standards Commission also provides advice about the interpretation of the Codes of Conduct to officers on request. We aim to do so within the timescales set out in the Standards Commission’s Service Charter.

For advice and further information, please contact us on 0131 348 6666 or by email to enquiries@standardscommission.org.uk.
