The Standards Commission is an independent body whose purpose is to encourage high ethical standards in public life through the promotion and enforcement of Codes of Conduct for councillors and those appointed to the boards of devolved public bodies.

The Councillors, or elected members, from each of Scotland's 32 Local Authorities have signed up to the Councillors' Code of Conduct. The Councillors' Code of Conduct can be viewed by clicking here.
Each Councillor is required to register their interests in accordance with the provisions in the Councillors' Code of Conduct. They are also required to update their register of interests within one month of a change occurring . All 32 Local Authorities publish a Register of Interests for their elected members.
